“Either education contributes to a movement of universal liberation by showing the way to defend and raise humanity or it becomes like one of those organs which have shriveled up by not being used during the evolution of the organism.”
Dr. Maria Montessori, The Formation of Man
The Montessori School of Huntsville affirms our commitment as an educational institution to anti-biased and antiracist (ABAR) practices. The mission of Montessori education is deeply aligned with the liberation of marginalized and oppressed people. We support this liberation through the removal of obstacles that stand in the way of children realizing the expansiveness of their unique potential. The unexamined culture of our daily lives creates some of these obstacles through racial injustice and system-level inequalities. Our school seeks to actively dismantle the systems of oppression that stifle human flourishing.
With sunshine and warmer temperatures on the horizon, we are scheduling our last few work days to complete the renovation of the Kathy O’Reilly Memorial Garden! Get Involved!
Kathy O’Reilly served MSH for over 23 years as a lead teacher, board member, and the head of school. She is fondly remembered for her generosity of spirit, delight in working with children, and abiding compassion for those in need. The Kathy O’Reilly Memorial Scholarship Fund, dedicated in her honor, provides the opportunity for children from families with limited resources to receive a Montessori education.
Ms. Lacey is a Lead Infant and Toddler Guide at MSH. Lacey received her Montessori credential from the Greater Cincinnati Center for Montessori Education. In addition to leading in the toddler classroom, Lacey guides infants and their caregivers in our Montessori Mornings program.

“The child is both a hope and a promise for mankind”
When I look at the world today, it can be a bit disheartening. Because all I see and hear about are rumors of war, political confusion, death and dying and people being downright mean to one another. But with the same eyes I look on the faces of the beautiful children that I encounter on a daily basis, especially the face of my little blessing Jacob, and I am reassured that the human race is not without hope. The child helps us all to experience pure love and innocence in a way that has been a distant memory, a utopian idea even. But with every new birth we have the promise of a new day, a new idea, a new chance at having at least a little piece of heaven here on earth.
